Samsung is thought to be developing a smart shirt that can diagnose diseases like pneumonia, asthma and more.

The Dutch site LetsGoDigital has discovered patents that Samsung’s shirt will have built-in sensors to record lung function readings and send them to your smartphone.

The patent was entitled ‘Electronic apparatus and method of controlling the same’.

With the information sent over from the sensors, the technology can also be used to give direct advice to the user. These could be emergency measures or simply steps that can be taken to prevent disease.

Because the lung functions are recorded by sound, Samsung’s smart shirt would be measuring the frequency and the strength of breath.

According to the patents discovered by the site, the user’s weight, height, age and medical history are all used to give the correct diagnosis. Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Asthma and COPD would all be recognised by the smart shirt.

It’s worth noting that it’s not just the smart shirt that Samsung may be hoping to incorporate this technology with. The sensors could be used in the future on other different types of clothing to measure other parts of the body.

It is unclear whether this technology, which was patented last month will ever see the light of day, but being able to give an immediate diagnosis of lung disease or helping analyse an athlete’s performance is obviously a great resource.
