Scientists believe that in the near future we will be able to download knowledge directly into our brains, and that it could be just as easy as falling asleep.

According to The Telegraph, researchers at HRL Laboratories claim to have developed a simulator which can shoot information directly into your brain and teach you new skills in only a short space of time.

The scientists think that this could be the first step in creating advanced software that will make instant learning a reality.

The researchers at California based HRL Laboratories studied electrical signals in the brain of a professional pilot and then fed the data into newbies as they learnt how to fly in a realistic flight simulator.

Their findings, published in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, found that the trainee pilots who underwent brain stimulation via electrode-embedded head caps improved their piloting abilities 33% better than a placebo group.

Dr Matthew Phillips explained:

Our system is one of the first of its kind. It’s a brain stimulation system. It sounds kind of sci-fi, but there’s large scientific basis for the development of our system.

In the near future Dr Matthews believes that brain stimulation could be implemented for tasks like learning to drive, exam preparation and language learning – so say goodbye to cheap energy drinks and all-nighters.
