Tesla has announced that its brand new SUV, the Model Y, is due to come out in 2020.

The latest electric car will join the likes of the Model 3, Model S, Model X and the original Roadster in the company’s collection.

The less bulky, standard version of the Model X will be able to travel 230 miles on a single charge, with the cheapest version of the car costing $39,000. There is also a performance version of the vehicle coming out, capable of reaching 0 to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds, setting customers back $60,000. A long range version of the car, able to travel 300 miles on a single charge. That particular model will cost $47,000.

CEO Elon Musk said in a press conference that the long-range version of the car is set to come out next year, with the standard and performance models due to be released in 2021.

The Model Y will have many of the same features as the Model 3 but will be about 10% bigger. It will seat seven people, features a panoramic glass roof, and keyless entry.

All of the versions of the Model Y will have a top speed of 150mph.

Model Y is set to bridge between the Model 3 and the more expensive Model X, the SUV with a starting price of $79,500.

The announcement comes after it was revealed Tesla was bringing out a cheaper version of the Model 3. You can now buy a ‘standard range’ model of the popular car for $35,000.

Tesla also announced this month it was transitioning all sales to online-only, which will lead to the closure of a lot of the company’s showrooms.

It’s unclear how long the anticipated wait will be for one of these cars, but you can expect there to be a long waiting list for the SUV.
