CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is the biggest consumer tech show there is and it’s in Las Vegas. Over 175,000 attends from all over the world and over 65,000 exhibitors travel down to showcase what they’ve been working on.
After clocking up about 20,000 steps every day checking out what’s new, I saw some weird gadgets and tech that would either shock you or make you get your wallet out (although mostly prototypes). So what are they?
Spartan connected boxers – protecting your junk since 2017
Spartan connected boxers owner apparently got kicked out of the CES unveiled show because he was displaying his junk for the spectators to see, but he was doing so for all the right reasons. The pair of boxers is no ordinary boxers.
It protects your penis and sperm count from all the radiation emitting from carrying your smartphone in your pocket and when you place your laptop on your lap. With silver woven into the fabric, it protects you throughout the day.
As if that is not enough, it’s also antibacterial ready, so if you have issues with sweaty and smelly junk, then it would prevent that.
Withings Hair Coach – We’ve been brushing our hair all wrong
This is the world’s first smart hairbrush in collaboration with Kérastase and L’Oréal. Brushing one’s hair is something you learn from such a young age and since everyone’s got their own way of doing things, this one provides insights.
It was quite popular at CES. You can track and improve hair health over time by syncing seamlessly to your smartphone to provide valuable insights such as dryness, damage, breakage, tangling, force & rhythm, stroke count and more. What’s great is all you do is brush as normal and leave the smart bit to do the rest.
Wair smart scarf – pollution filter made smart and stylish
If you live in a heavily polluted city like London, you will know that feeling of a thick smoke going in and out of your nostrils. Wair aims to make pollution filters smart and stylish by connecting it to your smartphone.
It filters pollution, bacterias and even pollens for those with hayfever. Connected to your smartphone, it monitors and informs you about the air quality where you are, and can even suggest a less polluted route when commuting.
I’m particularly looking forward to the snood-like option available too.
Jeans that vibrates when you get notifications
I’m not sure how the conversation went when they were designing this one, but the USP here is that it’s connected to your smartphone to give you notifications by vibrating. We’ve heard of wearables and even reviewed some here on UNILAD, but this one takes it a step further.
Using Bluetooth, iOS and Android users can connect their phone, select various notification options like incoming calls, texts and emails. There’s also the turn by turn navigation feature that vibrates either the left of right side of your groin when you need to change direction.
It’s going to be an interesting one to review. I wish they had people walking around wearing it at CES like the Spartans.
Smart cane – Something for the elderly
This on is weird but actually smart and useful. This smart cane from a French company called Dring will keep an eye on your loved ones by looking out for unusual activities such as falling over. It will send an alert to allocated family or carer automatically, potentially saving them.
It will alert the designated individual via text and even share their location so they can be located quickly, all automatically.
I write about all things tech!
