The More Television You Watch The More Likely You Will Die, Apparently

For those who are partial to a bit of Netflix or watching movie marathons, I’m afraid we have a bit of bad news for you…

New research goes well beyond saying you will just get ‘square eyes’ from watching excessive amounts of TV. The National Cancer Institute in the US published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine found links between the amount of telly watched and the increased likelihood of death. Yikes.

The study wasn’t unrepresentative either. They analysed over 221,000 people between the ages of 50 and 71-years-old, and the researchers found those who watch around three to four hours of television a day were 15 per cent more likely to die from any cause to those who watched one hour per day – well that makes sense. But, those who watch it seven hours a day are 47 per cent more likely to die. Who ever knew you could have too much of a good thing?

Dr Sarah Keadle of the National Cancer Institute told The Independent:

Our results fit within a growing body of research indicating that too much sitting can have many different adverse health effects. Given the increasing age of the population, the high prevalence of TV viewing in leisure time, and the broad range of mortality outcomes for which risk appears to be increased, prolonged TV viewing may be an important target for public health intervention than previously recognised.

Netflix

The likes of Netflix could be fucked if people take this seriously. But, probably not.
