Shaun of the DeadAmazon has an exemption written into its terms and conditions which allows for the use of an online web service during a zombie attack, apparently.
The Independent has reported that the firm’s new game engine ‘Lumberyard’ has taken an undead uprising into consideration.
Developers can use the tool for free, so long as they sign up to Amazon cloud services, but there are many system restrictions it cannot be used with.
According to The Independent these are:
Life-critical or safety-critical systems, such as use in operation of medical equipment, automated transportation systems, autonomous vehicles, aircraft or air traffic control, nuclear facilities, manned spacecraft, or military use in connection with live combat.
In keeping with Amazon’s acceptable use policy, these restrictions are lifted should the U.S. Centers for Disease Control confirm a zombie outbreak.
The terms are reportedly lifted in the event of:
Widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organized civilization.
Well that is wholly unsettling.
The exemption was allegedly first pointed out by a woman called Diane Patterson, who then suggested ‘Amazon knows something we don’t’.
Whether or not Amazon have some inside knowledge about mankind’s possible fate remains to be seen, but it’s bloody good of them to have the customer in mind even when faced with the apocalypse.
