Oh yeah, we all remember Marty’s super-cool power laces! The way they so perfectly embraced his feet into those futuristic Nike boots.

Well those babies are no longer in the future. Lo and behold, Nike have graced us with their first pair of self-lacing shoes which go on sale November 28.

Just in time for Christmas, you can get your hands on a pair of HyperAdapt 1.0:

John Hoke, Nike’s vice president of design, explains that the shoe uses a battery-powered series of pulleys that clinch the throat of the shoe. When the wearer steps inside the shoe, sensors at the bottom register his or her weight and the position of the foot inside.

He said: “It reads if you’re heavy on your heel or heavy on your forefoot,”

The battery will last for two weeks on one charge according to Wired, but yep, you guessed it, you will have to plug your shoes in to charge…how futuristic.

Here’s the full video of them in action, complete with blue lights:

The vision for the shoes is broader than just motorised laces. The shoes actually learn your preferred setting and automatically change to those once you’ve worn them a few times.

You can adjust the tightness by pushing on a plus or minus sign on the left side of the shoe and if you hold it down for two seconds, the shoe will loosen fully.

The thing is, what if you got stuck in quick sand and needed to take your shoes off so you could jump to safety but your trainers ran out of battery so you had to just stay there and die?

Hey, you never know. You can always rely on manual laces in these situations.
