Most broadband is ‘up to’ a certain speed, meaning we rarely get the top speeds, so here is a way to increase the speed yourself thanks to Tech Viral.
Basically you need to channel your inner Anonymous hacker and change your Default Domain Server Name (DNS) to Google DNS.
A DNS is a protocol that alters an IP address to a domain address, making the digits of an IP address into more human friendly readable alphabetic words.
So to connect to the free Open DNS you have to go to your ‘Network and Internet options’ in the ‘Control Panel’ and ‘Change Adapter Settings’.
Next you have to choose the Internet Connection you are currently connected to and right click to bring up the properties of that network.
On the left side of the screen choose Internet Protocol Version 4 and go to properties, before clicking Use Following DNS Server Addresses and type in their respective tabs:
*Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.222
*Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220
Click ‘OK’ and then continue to configure Internet Protocol Version 6 with the following servers:
*Preferred DNS server: 2620:0:ccc::2
*Alternate DNS server: 2620:0:ccd::2
If you do this, you could be as happy as these guys…
Once you have given the new DNS server IP addresses, save the settings.
You are now using the DNS servers that are faster than the default one that comes with your computer.
This change could boost your Internet speed by up to 30 per cent!
