As we all know, no one under the age of 50 can actually afford to buy a house anymore and with landlords diving in to gobble up all the very limited affordable housing that’s left, we could all be renting for a very long time.
So, the thought of having to drag all your possessions round in bags every time you’re forced into moving has lit the creative spark and forced designers to come up with ways around the issue.
As something of a solution to this problem Austrian design agency Juust Design have created Travelbox Olot – a portable box which houses everything you need to become a light-weight home-mover.
The design, which seems to be in the preliminary stages, combines portability and practicality and ‘can transform’ any new abode into a comfortable home for those on a tight budget. When it’s closed, it is a sleek, chrome, futuristic cube but once opened, it reveals a bed, table and chair and plenty of storage space.
Travelbox designers said:
Rather than being dependent on continually purchasing new furniture in each of your destinations – an approach that is both expensive and environmentally wasteful – this prioritises quality and provides the opportunity for re-use.
It probably won’t be long before these are on the shelves in IKEA and taking up all the space on the tube.
