Over the weekend, Technics unveiled the new Grand Class SL-1210GR (black) Direct-Drive Turntable System, joining the SL1200GR (silver) edition that was announced at CES 2017
Both models have the same DNA as the iconic SL-1200G, which was developed as a reference direct-drive turntable for the next generation. We were at the Abbey Road Studios to check them out and what a better place to show them off than a place where the Beatles made records?
The SL-1200G was quite expensive as it was a reference model (just under £3,000) – it was based on what was used for vinyl and music quality control before it went out to the masses – and as pricey as it was, vinyl fans were quick to snap them up, selling out of the 1200 units made in no time.
Technics announced the SL1200GR (Silver) back in January during CES but didn’t mention pricing, however, those interested can now pick them up from April for around £1299.
On top of these legendary features of the 1200G, the latest models offer new materials and technical design, without compromising sound quality for a wider group of audio enthusiasts. Whether you’re a DJ or just want to play your vinyl at your leisure, the new models are just what you’d expect them to be, plus more.
Whether you go for the 1200GR silver or the new black 1210GR, you get durability, shock resistance, reliable direct drive and adjustable rotation speed, just like the iconic and legendary 1200G.
Parts from the SL-1200G were newly developed to create the SL-1200GR and the SL-1210GR, such as the coreless direct-drive motor and precise motor control technology, high-rigidity platter and high-sensitivity tonearm.
