Acton, the guys who brought us powered roller skates, have now unveiled their latest product – the iPhone controlled electric skateboard.
The company’s new ‘Blink-Board’, unveiled at CES 2016, is far smaller than many of the electric skateboards on the market today. The Blink-Board is just 26.5 inches long and is designed to be more like tiny ‘Penny Boards’.
According to Mashable, the new board weighs around ten pounds and it comes with a carrying strap so you can sling it over your shoulder when you’re not riding.
Acton CTO Peter Treadway, told Mashable:
We wanted to get more people to ride the short distance who wouldn’t normally be doing it. It’s quite small so you can take it anywhere you want to go.
The board does come with a remote control, but if you leave it behind your iPhone can double as a remote using the Acton App. To ride it, you simply get on the maple wood deck and hit ‘go’ on the app or use the throttle toggle on the remote.
The board charges in a couple of hours and Treadway claims it can do six miles on a single charge, with the app keeping note of how much charge is left.
With a max speed of 12mph and a top load of 250 pounds, the Blink-Board’s ‘trucks’ have to be located very close to the front and back ends of the board for better stability.
The board is due to hit the market at the end of January and will cost around $500 (£340). Who’s going to be rushing out to buy one?
