You’ll soon finally be able to hide all those awful stock apps on your iPhone.

We’ve all got a ‘junk’ folder where all of those apps we can’t delete go – ahem – tips and stocks. And chances are you never use them.

Well now, according to tech site AppAdvice, new code discovered in iTunes metadata suggests that Apple are introducing a way to remove them once and for all.

The actual line of code reads ‘isFirstPartyHideableApp’, so it looks like we’ll be able to hide those pre-installed apps we can’t delete soon.

Now, it’s not clear on whether or not we’ll actually be able to delete them to free up storage space, or just hide them from our home screens. I’m sure most of us would love to be able to delete them, but either way, it’s a step in the right direction.

Tim Cook explained the issue with deleting those apps to Buzzfeed last year.

He said:

There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone.

If they were to be removed they might they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone. There are other apps that aren’t like that.

So over time, I think with the ones that aren’t like that, we’ll figure out a way [for you to remove them].

Let’s hope that that time is now, and that we can expect the new feature on the iPhone 7.
