Allow me to set the scene for you.
Last night you went out on the beer, this morning you got up early for work – unsure whether you’re slightly hungover or still slightly drunk. You battled through the day like an office working superman.
By 16:55 you twiddled your thumbs as the seconds turned into minutes and the minutes oozed ever triumphantly forward to the big 17:00.
When you finally got home you made yourself a brew, slipped out of your pants, and lay on the sofa in joyous misery. In a matter of seconds you’re on YouTube watching a prank video, or a fail video, or even a new fucking music video. But before that happens you get hit with one of life’s most irritating of occurences. An advert.
Well, fair play to YouTube as they’re about to finally dump those 30 second unskippable ads on their videos – come 2018 that is, according to the Mirror.
In an official statement released by the video streaming giants, they say:
We’ve decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers.
But all good things come with a price. The price being, that the currently skippable six second adverts will, come 2018, become unskippable.
Ah well, sure seems like a good deal to me!
