Game of Thrones fans are to be spoilt as HBO is launching several spin-offs to get excited about.

On the recent Television Critics Association press tour, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys confirmed that four spin-off series are currently in development but fans will have to wait for them.

Bloys emphasised that right now the number one priority for the network is series eight of the hit show which will be the final season.

The spin-offs will therefore not be aired until ‘at least a year after’ this series has aired which may not be until 2019.

Bloys commented:

I don’t want to do anything with a spin-off or anything that detracts or distracts from that.

What I don’t want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after that.

It’s best to separate it and that’s what we’ll do.

During the tour Bloys also emphasised that there are actually four spin-offs in development despite the rumour circulating that five were being made.

This rumour started earlier this year when writer George R.R. Martin announced on his blog:

We had four scripts in development when I arrived in LA [earlier in May], but by the time I left we had five.

This may have been the case but we should only expect four series to come, all of which will explore various time periods of the universe Martin has created.

Bloys added:

We’ll be lucky to get one that hits, and we’re hopeful and we’ll see.

With notable writers that include Jane Goldman (Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle) and Carly Wray (Mad Men) working on the spin-offs, the future is looking promising!
