New Stephen King Netflix Film Getting Better Ratings Than IT

While the film adaptation of It has been breaking box office records, there is another Stephen King film about to be released ready to steal the thunder.

Directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Carla Gugino, Gerald’s Game is based on King’s popular novel about a couple who visit a secluded cabin in the woods in an attempt to spice up their marriage.

Available to stream from today on Netflix, we now all know what you’ll be doing this weekend.

Especially since it’s even earning better reviews than It, which is now the highest grossing horror film of all-time in America.

According to reviews, Gerald’s Game is suspenseful, compelling, eerie and a must watch, especially for fans of King’s work.

The film follows Gerald and his wife Jessie as they go on holiday to a remote lake house in a bid to rekindle the flames of their marriage.

However, during a sex game Gerald suffers a fatal heart attack while his wife is handcuffed to the bed.

Naturally Jessie begins to panic and frantically fights to escape.

As she spends more time handcuffed to the bed, Jessie begins to hallucinate and hear voices in her head.

The longer she is trapped, the more she questions whether these visions and voices are real or not.

Both psychological and thrilling, this is something we need to see.

With a rating of 90 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 77 per cent on Metacritic, Gerald’s Game is currently beating It.

Andy Muschietti’s new take on the classic King novel It currently has 85 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and 70 per cent on Metacritic.

Of course they are very different films and since Gerald’s Game was only released today plenty more reviews are due to come in so these ratings are likely to change.

So far though reviews are highly positive with the film receiving much praise.

Den of Geek gave the film four stars saying:

Gerald’s Game is a brazen thriller filled with narrative audacity and a ‘locked room’ setup almost unheard of from studio chillers.

For audiences who are willing to study with such detail the shadings of an enigmatic portrait, it is a worthwhile match between a woman, her mental demons and even perhaps some real ones.

And all things considered, this might just be the one that you find tied to your mind when the lights (or spark) go out.

IGN also praised the film saying:

Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood are as superb as they have ever been, relishing in the opportunity to ask and answer all the big and little questions about Jessie, within the confines of an exquisite, simple, tortuously suspenseful thriller.

The film glides from chilling to cheeky almost effortlessly, earning its dramatic revelations.

Even when Gerald’s Game seems to go off the rails for a few scenes, right towards the end, we discover that this was all part of a greater design.

It sounds like Gerald’s Game is bound to please and we can’t watch to see it.
