1996 was a simpler time for many reasons. One of those reasons was that gamers did not yet know the misery of Dark Souls.
That hasn’t stopped YouTuber veselekov from imagining what Dark Souls would have been like if it launched in 1996 for the original PlayStation though.
Unsurprisingly, Dark Souls 3 – 1996 Version is basically just blockier, with more TNT and triangular boobs. Classic PlayStation. Plus, who doesn’t miss annoying fixed camera angles and awkward tank track controls? This looks, if possible, even harder than the actual Dark Souls 3.
For a quick comparison, take a look at how they’ve “demade” Vordt of the Boreal Valley. This is him in Dark Souls 3:
And this is him in all his PlayStation One glory – I can barely tell the difference.
There are also a fair few audio based Easter eggs for anyone with a keen sense of hearing and no life like me. For example, I noticed a couple of sound effects taken straight from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Take a look at the video yourself below. Even that cheeky bastard Patches makes an appearance, albeit in a very unusual form.
Ah Dark Souls. It doesn’t matter what era we find you in, you’ll always be on hand to ruin our day.
