In town to see President Trump inaugurated, the anonymous west Texan Republican man grabbed a bite to eat at a local establishment with a reputation for liberal politics and social justice.
Rosalynd Harris, a 25-year-old black waitress who works at Busboys and Poets, was allocated the table of this generous individual and his compadres.
Rosalynd HarrisAfter having a pleasant exchange and finishing their food, the group left the restaurant, which is a favourite of the 44th President, Barack Obama.
Before departing though, the Trump supporters decided to share a unifying message with their charming waitress, whose smile and personality the men admired.
In a magnanimous display of generosity, the nameless man endowed Rosalynd with a touching message of political unity and a huge tip to the tune of $450 (£356.89) – a 625 percent tip, nonetheless.
The message read:
We may come from different cultures and may disagree on certain issues, but if everyone would share their smile and kindness like your beautiful smile, our country will come together as one people.
Their message just goes to show that human kindness trumps political allegiances.
Rosalynd, who attended the Women’s March the previous day, told The Washington Post:
You automatically assume if someone supports Trump that they have ideas about you. But [the customer was] more embracing than even some of my more liberal friends, and there was a real authenticity in our exchange.
This definitely reshaped my perspective. Republican, Democrat, liberal are all subcategories to what we are experiencing. It instils a lot of hope.
The restaurant has since shared the receipt on Facebook with the caption, ‘We rise by lifting others’.
Harris added that the message was a great reminder not to make assumptions and that many Americans want the country to come together regardless of politics.
