Due to a series of unfortunate life circumstances, I do not know Ariana Grande or Pete Davidson.
At gun-point I’d be able to say the following: they went out, met on SNL, were engaged very quickly, split opinion on social media, split following the death of Mac Miller (who used to date Grande), the death was used against Davidson, Davidson then received horrible hate online, Grande then received horrible hate online, Grande recently released a music video with Kris Jenner playing one of the mums off Mean Girls.
This is no joke. Have a search of ‘Pete Davidson’ on Twitter and see if you don’t want to embrace all the bad news about Earth going to pot David Attenborough told us about yesterday. F*cking awful stuff.
I’m not saying fanbases are entirely hideous in their black and white attitudes, but some of them are, and it’s seemingly resorted to Davidson having to post the following note via Instagram:
I’ve kept my mouth shut. Never mentioned any names, never said a word about anyone or anything. I’m trying to understand how when something happens to a guy the whole entire world just trashes him without any facts or frame of reference.
Especially in today’s climate where everyone loves to be offended and upset it is truly mind boggling. I’ve been getting online bullied and in public by people for 9 months. [sic]
I’ve spoken about BPD [borderline personality disorder] and being suicidal publicly only in the hopes that it will help bring awareness and help kids like myself who don’t want to be on this earth. [sic]
I just want you guys to know. No matter how hard the internet or anyone tries to make me kill myself. I won’t. I’m upset I even have to say this. To all those holding me down and seeing this for what it is – I see you and I love you.
Grande, in fine form, responded with her own words of wisdom on her Instagram, posting a message alongside a screenshot of Davidson’s, which read:
i know u already know this but i feel I need to remind my fans to please be gentler with others. i really don’t endorse anything but forgiveness and positivity. [sic]
i care deeply about pete and his health.i’m asking you to please be gentler with others, even on the internet.i’ve learned thru my own mistakes not to be reactive on socials so I do understand. [sic]
She continued:
but you truly don’t know what anybody is experiencing, ever.regardless of what they choose to display on social media or how they may appear in public. i can promise you that.
so please let whatever point you’re trying to make go.I will always have irrevocable love for him and if you’ve gotten any other impression from my recent work, you might have missed the point.
Good on them both. For Pete calling out the hypocrisy of his critics, and for Grande in her support for someone who, despite circumstance, remains very dear to her.
