Ariana Grande reportedly made a dig at ex-fiancé Pete Davidson over Twitter, before deleting the tweet in question.
Grande apparently didn’t take too kindly to Davidson joking about his new found singledom during a Saturday Night Live promo, where he lightheartedly asked singer-songwriter guest Maggie Rogers if she wanted to marry him.
While comedic actor Jonah Hill looked on, Davidson, 24, asked Rogers:
Hey Maggie, I’m Pete. You wanna get married?
Rogers quickly replied, ‘No!’ to which Davidson responded, ‘0-for-three’, as he focused his gaze on the camera.
Grande later appeared to hit back at Davidson’s jokes over Twitter, accusing him of ‘clinging’ to relevancy.
Apparently not finding the onscreen jest too humorous, the 25-year-old No Tears Left to Cry singer tweeted:
For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh. thank u. next.
Adding more duel to the fire, Grande reportedly proceeded to post a full-stop after sharing a fan’s tweet which claimed, ‘SNL is about to milk their breakup just like they did with the engagement’.
Grande’s original tweet was later deleted, but not before fans had begun gossiping away.
One popcorn munching person tweeted:
Thank u next is the best thing anyone could ever say about their ex don’t @ me.
Another said:
Ariana Grande shading Pete Davidson is…inspiring. Alexa play better off FULL volume.
Some fans sympathised with Grande, believing it was inappropriate for Davidson to poke fun at their failed relationship, while others found his self-deprecating humour relatable.
Grande and Davidson got engaged in June 2018 after just weeks of dating, with Davidson later admitting to knowing he wanted to marry Grande upon first meeting her.
Speaking with GQ, the then loved-up comedian and actor admitted:
The day I met her, I was like, ‘Hey, I’ll marry you tomorrow,’
She was calling my bluff. I sent her a picture [of engagement rings]. I was like, ‘Do you like any of these?’ She was like, ‘Those are my favourite ones,’ and I was like, ‘Sick’.
Grande’s eventual engagement ring reportedly set Davidson back an approximate $100,000.
They broke things off in October. During their five month romance, the pair even got tattoos signifying their affection for each other.
As reported by The Sun, a source has claimed Grande called time on the relationship after Davidson failed to give her the support she needed:
Ariana dumped Pete. They’d been rowing for two weeks about Pete’s lack of support after Mac’s death.
Ariana has been devastated and Pete couldn’t handle it. She realised she needs a grown-up who can support her and that’s not him.
A source told TMZ how Davidson had reportedly been in ‘good spirits’ while getting ready for his SNL appearance; reportedly making jokes about getting involved in a relationship too soon.
Interestingly, the former couple reportedly met for thje first time on the set of SNL back in March 2018. They had both been dating other people at the time.
