Would you give up your smartphone for a year? Sacrifice all those late night conversations over WhatsApp, the ability to show people on Instagram what terrible club you’re in and/or 280-character hot takes on Twitter? The list goes on!
It’s the question on the lips of one water company, who is offering $100,000, that’s right, $100,000 to throw away their phone for 365 days.
‘Did you know 1 out of 2 people say they couldn’t live without their smartphone? yikes. break the cycle with scroll-free life solutions™ by vitaminwater,’ they write.
‘How do I enter? it’s simple! share on twitter or Instagram what you’d do instead of scrolling with hashtags #nophoneforayear and #contest. go scroll-free for a year, prove it, and you could win $100k. live the life you’ve always dreamed and more. (check out our rules. lie detector test included.)’
To enter all you have to do is use the hashtag #nophoneforayear on Twitter or Instagram and describe how’d you feel going a year without a smartphone.
Vitamin Water will then pick a winner based on originality and banter following their January 7 deadline.
People who make the six-month mark can earn $10,000, let it be known.
The rules, as per their website:
You may not use any smartphone for 365 days. If texting is a pleasant experience or you can get on the internet, it’s probably a smartphone.
This means you may not physically operate, caress, hug or otherwise be physically affectionate with anyone’s smartphone.
If you’re lying in bed and miss your phone, do not attempt to sneak a midnight scroll…just close your eyes and dream about vitaminwater®. That’s what we do. every night. and sometimes at the office.
Natalia Suarez, the company’s associate brand manager, told CNBC:
We don’t think there’s anything more boring than mindlessly scrolling through your phone, and this is an opportunity to take that stance against routine and give someone $100,000 to do something uniquely awesome with their time.
Think you’ve got what it takes? Find out all about it right here. Oh me, you’re wondering? Well, I could easily bag this money without breaking a sweat.
Fiercely against Luddites, I also appreciate intermissions from a world of nonstop group chat banter and Instagram filters; those precious and free-of-charge moments where I get to bask in life’s splendour whether that be a walk in the Lakes, a nice bit of isolation in my local theatre, or spending my month’s wages on payday down the boozer. It’s the memories that count!
