An arrest warrant has been issued by Azerbaijan for Dan Bilzerian.
It was revealed earlier this week the ‘playboy’ had enlisted in the Armenian army.
The notorious gambler visited Artsakh, Armenia, where he met with the country’s human rights defender, Ruben Melikyan.
He posted a picture of him and Bilzerian on Facebook with the caption:
Communication seems to be a success.
Earlier this week, (Monday, August 27), Dan and his brother Adam received Armenian passports in Yerevan, the country’s capital.
They are both of Armenian descent due to their father’s nationality, and have said half of the Bilzerian family were killed during the nation’s infamous genocide.
According to the Military Commissariat’s representative, as per Arm Radio, Bilzerian also registered with Armenia’s Armed Forces.
The Florida-born social media veteran is now being chased by authorities according to People, who confirmed the Investigate Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has initiated a criminal case against the poker player.
They allege he illegally visited Nagorno-Karabakh – a region in Asia known for its conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia – and ‘demonstratively’ used illegally acquired grenades and firearms at a shooting range.
The precise charges he faces are not immediately clear.
Bilzerian is the CEO of Ignite, a company which produces cannabis products that are sold in licensed dispensaries in states where its sale is legal. He told People he thinks the arrest warrant was politically motivated.
He said:
They only issued the warrant for my arrest, and nobody else on the trip. I think it’s because I am a public figure and they want to try to make an example out of me.
People further confirmed with the Consulate General of Armenia that the nation has contacted ‘Interpol and urged them to dismiss Azerbaijan’s prosecution of Bilzerian as political.’
According to law, every male citizen of the Republic of Armenia should register with the Armed Forces.
Seeing as though Bilzerian has spent most of his days living it up in the States, he missed out on such a law.
He did enter the Navy SEAL training program in 2000; however, after several attempts, he didn’t graduate. He was reportedly dropped from the programme for a ‘safety violation on the shooting range’.
The last any of us heard about Bilzerian’s penchant for courage was when he went viral during last October’s Las Vegas mass shooting, when Stephen Paddock opened fire on people attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival, leaving 58 dead and a further 851 injured.
In the video, Bilzerian said:
This is so f*cking crazy. I had to go grab a gun, I’m f*cking heading back. It’s so crazy, some kind of mass shooting. Guy had a heavy calibre weapon for sure.
Saw some girl get shot in the face right next to me, her brains f*cking hanging out.
Besides that, he’s all scantily-clad women and poker. It’s not known whether he’ll be bringing his Stateside endeavours to Armenia.
