David Schwimmer has made the perfect response to a recent police search which led to people believing his Friends character had stolen some cans of lager.

Police in Blackpool shared a picture of the man, who bore a striking resemblance to Schwimmer’s character Ross, on their Facebook page yesterday (October 24).

They asked the public for help in identifying the thief who had a shifty look on his face as he looked at the camera.

You can see the post below:

The caption read:

Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him in relation to a theft at a Blackpool restaurant on the 20th September. If you know who this is, please email 7798@lancashire.pnn.police.uk quoting log LC-20180920-0670. Thank you for your help.

Immediately after posting it, people commented in their thousands suggesting that this was Ross. But Ross never stole, did he?

Sure, Chandler and Rachel stole a cheesecake, Phoebe accidentally nearly stole Monica’s engagement ring, and Monica had a habit of taking Ross’ spare cash. But Ross?

He did have a habit of taking things from hotels, but that wasn’t exactly stealing. He was just taking what the hotel owed him, that’s all!

Comments under the post read:

“What’s the difference between beer and larger”, “I don’t know we can look it up”, “things are about to get wild!” [sic]

Please approach with caution. He is known to have studied Karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the total state of awareness.

And as much as we all wanted it to be Schwimmer stealing lagers in the photo, Blackpool police quickly confirmed this wasn’t the case.

They responded to the comments, writing:

Thank you to everyone for your speedy responses. We have investigated this matter thoroughly and have confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We’re so sorry it has to be this way.

And now Schwimmer has had the perfect response to the whole debacle, in the form of a hilarious video.

He responded on his Twitter account today (October 24) saying:

Officers, I swear it wasn’t me.
As you can see, I was in New York.
To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.

Hilarious. The fact that he’s even heard of Blackpool is good enough for me – never mind the fact that he’s clearly gone to so much effort to recreate the CCTV footage.

The tweet quickly went viral, with many people claiming it was the ‘best tweet ever’. Bravo Ross.

At least all of this means the post has gone viral, spreading awareness about the crime. I can’t imagine the thief will be able to go out and about now without getting spotted due to his unlikely internet fame.
