Boxer Deontay Wilder has apologised after allegedly breaking a man’s jaw live on TV.

The current WBC Heavyweight champion went viral earlier this week when he punched a tortilla in the face with the cameras catching every single second.

Appearing on the ESPN show Nacion to promote his upcoming fight against the one and only Tyson Fury, Wilder was asked to demonstrate his punching power being encouraged to hit the mascot.

The producers clearly went on to regret this decision as Wilder punched the tortilla mascot slam bam in the face with all his power.

According to Raw Daily, Wilder didn’t realise there was a human in the costume, a point he now refutes, and alleged the poor fella in the outfit had his jaw broken by the punch meaning he really didn’t have a good day at the office.

You can watch the video below:

Finally breaking his silence, Wilder has responded to the video in an Instagram post disputing the claim he didn’t know a person was in the costume.

Sharing a screenshot of a news article about the video, Wilder wrote:

Yea, anything headlining I didn’t know a ‘Human Being’ was in there is just straight ‘Click Baiting’.

Like come on now, I guess the Mascot rolled out there. Show so respect!

I sincerely apologise to the brave man that was injured (if this is true). I have the up most high respect for him, his participation, willingness and courage.

If this is true Nacion ESPN I personally would like to invite him to my Dec.1 fight. Word Is Bond.

To be honest Wilder, I am not sure the man in the mascot outfit will be wanting to see you again. Especially anywhere near a boxing ring!

While the post has received support from his fans getting over 47,000 likes so far at time of writing (October 14), people have had mixed reactions to the incident in the comments section.

One user branded Wilder’s behaviour as ‘stupid’ writing:

Stupid behaviour. How the hell didn’t he know a real person was inside. And how old could that person have been? Could have been a kid or girl.

I saw the video and the presenters were absolutely pathetic. The lady was shocked but then covered up. Who went to help the mascot? No one really. Bad bad bad incident.

Another person disagreed though stating that it could have happened to anyone. Really?

They commented:

Damn brother! That’s crazy!! I love your post tho. This could happen to anybody. See you in December Champ.

While we are looking forward to the December fight, I doubt it will be as exciting as Wilder vs. Tortilla.
