Eminem’s tenth studio album, Kamikaze, may have officially gone platinum in the last few days, but he’s finding himself on the right side of film critics with new flick, Bodied.
That’s right, just when you thought Slim was a one trick pony, he went and produced the battle rap satire which currently boasts a decent 87 per cent ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bodied follows Adam Merkin, a progressive grad student who becomes an accidental battle rapper whose success breeds outrage. Shoniqua Shandai (Sing It!, The Fosters), Walter Perez (The Avengers, Fame), and Rory Uphold (Hella) also star in the film.
Renown battle rappers Dizaster, Dumbfoundead, Hollow Da Don and media personality Charlamagne Tha God, are among the supporting cast.
In an act of kindness which is bound to go down well with his fans (at least in Detroit), Slim bought out an AMC cinema in the US city so they could watch Bodied free of charge – so long as you rock up quick.
He wrote:
DETROIT! Come through and get #BODIED! I bought out the theater, so tickets on me for the Friday + Saturday @BodiedMovie 6:40pm screenings at the AMC 30 in Sterling Heights. First come first serve. [sic]
‘Thanks for ticket bro! I had planned on going anyways; but dope thought on your part! Moved from California so seeing this movie out here plus you buying ticket made it even doper! Thanks!’ one fan wrote.
While another said:
That’s so dope that Em just bought out the theater so people could go see the film for free, add another reason being a G.O.A.T. [sic]
A third added:
Thank You 🙏🏽 @eminem I made it in to see Bodied at this showing and can I just say you never disappoint! [sic]
Amazing, tbh. Funny that the film should come out in the fallout of he and Machine Gun Kelly’s blistering yet brief beef.
Remember that? Kelly went for Slim, Slim stayed quiet for a while then fired back with Killshot? That was last month, believe it or not. Seems a lifetime ago.
‘Shut the f*ck up,’ Eminem started, before going straight in on MGK’s looks, rapping: ‘How you gonna name yourself after a f*cking gun and have a man bun?’
He added: ‘Your reply got the crowd yellin’ “Oo” so before you die let’s see who can out-petty who with your corny lines.
‘I’m 45 and I’m still out-selling you.’
28-year-old Kelly, who’s credited Mathers as the original inspiration behind his own hip-hop writings, had sent for the veteran rapper in Rap Devil, a nod to Eminem’s Rap God.
On the track, Kelly slated Eminem’s ‘weird beard’ and blasted his last four albums as being ‘as bad as your selfie.’
The feud between Kelly and Em began way back in 2012 when Kelly tweeted about his daughter, Hailie, being ‘hot as f*ck.’ Kelly also claimed Eminem banned him from appearing on his Shade 45 channel.
Kelly wasn’t done there though, taking to Instagram to send the ultimate message via iPhone camera:
Youch.
Eminem announced the drop of his tenth album, just eight months after the release of his previous record, Revival.
Kamikaze indeed took the world by storm, and has even been considered Slim’s best album in a decade.
The album quickly worked its way to the top of the Official UK Albums Chart.
Kamikaze held on to the number one spot after its release to make music history.
The surprise album is Eminem’s ninth consecutive number one album, beating the previous record which he held alongside ABBA and Led Zeppelin, who have eight consecutive number one albums each.
A big congrats to Eminem who, despite being harangued via diss track, managed to overcome all the odds and go platinum for the tenth time in his career.
Here’s to many more. Keep doing you, Slim.
