Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay pledged to give his kids a huge amount of money to donate to charity if they beat his London Marathon time.
More than 40,000 people took to the streets of the capital yesterday to participate in the hottest London Marathon on record.
Two of these runners were Gordon’s twin children Jack and Holly who set out to beat their dad’s time of three hours and 30 minutes.
Gordon has completed the course several times and decided to challenge his twins, who turned 18 recently, before they took to the streets.
Jack and Holly ran the marathon to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, a specialist centre in London which treats children with complex illnesses and researches into numerous diseases.
Commenting on a photo Jack posted to Instagram before he set out to run the race, Gordon commented:
Jack – dad’s time to beat is three hours 30 minutes. Come on big boy, you can do this!
£26,200 if you do this!!!! I know you can. I’m so proud of you both. Smart twins.
Unfortunately the pair failed to the beat the challenge although they still had impressive times with Jack completing the gruelling race in four hours and 30 minutes with Holly running the 26.2 miles in five hours and 24 minutes.
We’re pretty sure their kind dad still donated though with the twins raising a whopping £27,861 for the charity at time of writing (April 23).
Gordon continually showed his support for his kids on his Instagram page posting photos of the duo encouraging his followers to donate.
He captioned one post with:
Not long to go kiddos! So proud of you both running the London Marathon for the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Head to the link in my bio to support them!
Earlier this week the popular chef caused quite a stir when he claimed he had turned vegan on social media.
Posting a snap of a delicious looking pizza, the chef tweeted:
Going to give this vegan thing a try… Yes guys you heard that right

Of course we are not sure whether he has actually gone full vegan or only tried it for a night.
His tweet arrived only a day before the opening of his latest restaurant, Street Pizza in London, and the pizza in the snap is the venue’s only vegan option, a chargrilled aubergine pizza with pine nuts and pesto.
Even if it is just a clever marketing ploy, it certainly grabbed the attention of the internet as people rushed to praise Gordon on his decision.
Yayyy! So happy for you! That looks delicious!!!!!

Many were excited at the prospect of Gordon creating several vegan recipes although of course none of this was confirmed.
Meanwhile many others questioned whether the chef’s Twitter had been hacked and how true his statement was.
It will be interesting to see if Gordon does stick with the dietary choice.
