Ra Paulette is an American artist who has spent years in the high desert of New Mexico carving out amazing cave homes. He works with the company of his dog.
Paulette is self taught and has never studied architecture, sculpting, or structural engineering. He works predominantly with hand tools like shovels, pick axes, and scrapers.
The purpose of his gigantic project is to create environments that would inspire “spiritual renewal and personal well being.”
Paulette has described his artistic approach previously in an interview: “It has a lot to do with the juxtaposition of opposites, the sense of being underground with the light streaming in; the intimacy of being in a cave, yet the columns are very large, sometimes thirty to forty feet high.”
