Hey, you can’t blame a guy for trying.
Given all the excitement over large lottery jackpots in recent weeks, one creative British guy decided he wanted to get in on the action.
As reported by Mashable, Jonny Smith shared the bizarre story of his totally legit winning scratchcard on the National Lottery Facebook page, in the hope of getting a major payout of his own.
It’s just a shame that a series of unfortunate events, including small fires and ink spillages, may have robbed him of his entirely deserved winnings.
In full, his Facebook post read:
Hi National Lottery! I bought this scratchcard recently and as you can clearly see i have revealed 3 £250,000 figures in the end column meaning i should be able to start shopping at Waitrose in the near future.
Unfortunately both bar codes on the reverse side have been removed by a small fire. This completely accidental inferno has also damaged the game number on the front side.
I may also add that due to my clumsyness, in a completely seperate incident i have also spilt pen ink on the other identifying number in the game column. Just my bloody luck eh!?
Just to conclude, if you dont mind sending me a direct message to confirm that this is a winner i would be more than happy to pass on my postal address so you can send me my winners cheque.

To their credit, the National Lottery weren’t about to let this injustice lie and they got back to Jonny promptly with a response.
Unfortunately, after significant forensic investigations, they concluded that the ticket was not redeemable.
Still, at least Hayley was there to break it to the big man gently and offer him a bit of useful advice:
