Whether you think Nicolas Cage is a good actor or a bad actor (for the record, he’s both) most rationally minded people agree he’s a cool guy.

Whether it’s naming his son Kal-el after Superman or buying stolen T-Rex skulls then returning them to the museum they belonged to, like some real life version of Benjamin Gates, Nic is clearly an interesting fella.

So it should come as no surprise to fans that the American national treasure would crash a party being thrown in his honour because he’s Nic fucking Cage and he does what he wants.

For the last three years, Nic Cage fans have honoured their one true god at the Alamo Drafthouse Theatre in Texas by showing back-to-back screenings of his best films and this year Nic himself made an appearance, The Independent reports.

During the event, creatively named CAGED, Nic answered questions from fans and even did a reading from Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart to thank fans for attending.

Cage explained:

I’m thrilled to say that I made it to CAGED. This is the fourth incarnation of CAGED. And I wanted to do something special, my way of saying ‘thank you’ so I did a cold reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s Tell-Tale Heart, which influenced my work.

I used to read it when I was a child and it gave me all kinds of nightmares and I think I was trying to make movies on some level to get to that feeling in some of the more manic performances.

Greg MacLennan, the Alamo Drafthouse film programmer, helped to organise the event and expressed his excitement at finally facing off with his hero Cage.

He joked this is and will always be the greatest day of his life before apologising to his unborn future child.

Let’s hope Nic didn’t run into any bees while he was in Texas. He hates them you know.
