PAWith its majestic architecture, vibrant art and world class cuisine, Paris is an Instagrammer’s paradise.
However, Paris has slipped to second place in terms of the Instagrammed place on Earth, with beautiful old London town nabbing the top spot in a survey of the most Instagrammed holiday destinations.
New York took third place, with Dubai, Istanbul and – new top 10 contender – Jakarta following closely behind.
This study – which ranked the 50 most Instagrammable locations – was carried out by Hoppa, and looked at Instagram categories such as selfies, scenery, sexually suggestive, food, couples, shopping and wildlife.
These destinations were ranked according to how many times they had been hashtagged. For example, London has racked up 118,539,020 hashtags, with Paris just behind with 101,378,909 hashtags.
@cagatay.b35/InstagramBustling Berlin was found to be the ‘selfie’ capital of the world – snatching this title from London – while gorgeous Santiago in Chile proved cream of the crop for scenic posts, just above Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Kiev, Ukraine.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Tokyo in Japan came up top of the bunch for foodie Instagrammers, followed by Taipei in Taiwan and Dohar in Qatar.

While London’s Instagram photos used to mostly consist of selfies, this has now broadened to include a fair number of food and group photographs.
@zakkiosman/InstagramLocations differed depending on the type of holiday. For example, group Instagrammers opted for locations such as Istanbul, Nice, Barcelona, and Moscow, while snap-happy couples headed to destinations such as Dubai, Mumbai and – of course – Paris.
@natalia_velinksa/InstagramThis isn’t the first time this year that London’s many charms have been recognized. In March 2019, London was named as the best rated tourist destination in the world by TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice awards, beating Paris and Rome.

There’s so much to see and do in London, it’s easy to be overwhelmed. Major sights like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace are on most visitors’ itineraries, but no matter what your interests, you’ll probably find something here.
Art lovers should make a beeline for the National Gallery and the Tate Modern. If military history’s your thing, don’t miss the Cabinet War Rooms. Finally, forget everything you’ve heard about bland, mushy British food—the restaurant scene here is fabulous.
