Rihanna has sparked a religious uproar after she channeled Papal-attire for the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
The Bajan singer was dressed to the nines as part of the Heavenly Bodies theme in a hugely-embellished custom-made John Galliano gown.
Also on her dress, were crosses and a nu-Pope headdress, the Evening Standard reports.
One critic wrote:
@rihanna I love you but showing up with a pope head piece is so offensive to me. As someone raised in a catholic household I think the #MetGala2018 is a mockery of Christian religion and highly disrespectful on so many levels.
Another said:
So you can’t wear an Native American outfit for Halloween because it’s offensive, but Rihanna can dress like the Pope and she gets praised (???). Not only is she dressed as the Pope, her outfit sexualises it. Ok.
A third vented:
Self indulgent people who have highly inflated opinions of themselves, faithless worshippers of the fame religion.
The B**** Better Have my Money singer recently made headlines when she posted unfiltered bikini snaps of herself to the delight of her 62.1 million followers.
For an artist known for her looks as well as her hits, Rihanna’s latest post shows she’s not without her own flaws and blemishes on the outside. But instead of concealing with makeup or phone filter she fully embraces them.
The 30-year-old, who recently graced the cover of Vogue, proudly shows off her stretch marks and unshaven legs on the Gram.
Last year someone made the silly mistake of trying to ‘fat shame’ her on Twitter, but if it’s one thing Rihanna knows who to do well – it’s reply with some sass of her own.
When an LA-based writer called Chris Sage asked Twitter, ‘Is Rihanna going to make being fat the hot new trend?’ she fired back with an Instagram post showing two pictures of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, with the headline ‘If you can’t handle me at my 2007 Gucci Mane you don’t deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane’.
In other Rihanna-related news (there’s a lot going on in her life) it looks like her and Drake are dead as Dillinger.
In her Vogue interview Rihanna revealed she and rapper Drake were no longer even friends. The ill feelings stemming from the 2016 VMAs when the 6 God star presented her with the prestigious Vanguard award.
It was all going smoothly but things soon went very cringe-worthy when Drake started professing his undying love for Rihanna. You could see it in her eyes, she was thinking ‘What in the hell do you think you’re doing. Just shut up and hand me my damn award fool!’
At one point he even tried going in for a full-blown kiss on the lips but she straight-up curved him like he was in dire need of a Tic Tac or two.
She said:
The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal.
Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments. I don’t like to be put on blast.
All’s fair in love and war.
