Who needs to get irate about trivial things like stagnant living standards for the last 10 years, the destruction of social services, and global temperatures going through the roof, when Apple have done something with their new batch of emojis. Stop the world I want to get off.
In one of the most exciting parts of life in 2018, Apple have done an update on their iOS, so for those of us who use iPhones on the reg, this means exciting things like hitting ‘Remind me later’ every time the update button pops up for the next three weeks, or until we get bored of hitting the ‘Remind me later’ button.
The technologically savvy folk who aren’t afraid of possibly losing even more battery life by updating to the new system, have been blessed by new emojis as well as probably some kind of security update. But it can’t be 2018 without people getting upset about emojis.
As one of the 99 per cent of those to have not updated, you’ll probably understand this doesn’t seem like such a big deal.
Forgive me, who wouldn’t get shivers down their spine at the latest forms of expressing your emotion in pixelated form. iOS 12 has got some great new emojis which can help you share your soul like only Gina Linetti could.
There’s yawning face, a diving mask, a skunk, a flamingo and brown square among the highlights of this new update. Part of me just wants to list all the new emojis so I fill out my word count, but I respect you more than that.
What’s really got people’s goat – an emoji which has been around since 2015 in case anyone’s interested – is the new selection of feet symbols. The selection of six skin tones, designed for inclusivity, has got people raising eyebrows and tweeting their discontent.
To make the emojis stand out from each other, the feet emojis follow the same basic pattern of design of being slightly different tones.
Except that’s not really how feet work IRL.

Though it’s been reported many, many times, it seems the general public at long last have their hands on the long awaited new emojis, as previously, they’ve only been available to people with access to the beta previews of the iOS update.
The latest additions to the emoji family will also feature people who are bald, those with grey, and those of you with curly hair, so no matter what your hair style, there’ll likely be an emoji for you. Unless you’re really sensitive about feet.

Emoji are used by people all over the world to communicate. iOS 12.1 brings even more characters to the keyboard that better represent global users, including new emoji for moon cake, red gift envelope and nazar amulet.
Sports fans will celebrate the addition of new emoji for softball, frisbee and lacrosse, while outdoor adventurers will enjoy new characters for luggage, compass and a hiking boot to accompany the existing climbing emoji.
Maybe for the next update they can do a foot with a corn on the heel and fungus between the toes. With realistic shading to boot.
