Having your bike stolen is a pretty crap experience, especially if you’ve made an effort to chain it up…
But these days it seems locks aren’t enough to stop persistent thieves and their behaviour is considered to be the norm, thanks to the massive rise in bike thefts in recent years.
The Metropolitan Police Service stated that a staggering 20,000 bikes are reported stole in London each year, so roughly 54 thefts per day.
Top tips given normally are to lock your bike with a D-lock, as well as registering and marking your bike to act as a deterrent to potential bike-nicking pricks.
However, there are alternative and more hilarious means where you can take sweet revenge, vigilante style, as these brilliant YouTube clips show.
A group of pranksters set up a controversial social experiment, attaching electric shock apparatus to the frame of bikes which they left abandoned around Los Angeles for unsuspecting thieves to pick up.
And the results speak for themselves…
The clip has been viewed over 1.3 million times on YouTube, with many supporting the pranksters motive.
We obviously don’t condone doing this in real life, but police have more serious advice. They suggest using two locks of the gold ‘Sold Secure’ standard and lock the frame and both wheels of the bike to a parking stand.
