CORRECTION: This article originally published in 15th January 2020 contained false information. It has now been updated and corrected.
It originally claimed Priest Light Monyeki of Grace Living Hope Ministries gave rat poison to his congregation to prove they were above death. First of all, he is known as ‘Prophet’ not Priest. He confirms he did mix rat poison with water and drank it himself before other drank it too.
However the claim his entire congregation dies is not true and he has confirmed to Lead Stories the ministry is still up and running and no one who was administered the rat poison had a fatal dose.
He told Lead Stories:
Yes this did happen, and there was no case of any of our members being hospitalized or dying as the result of this demonstration. If there was any death, the Man of God [Monyeki] would have been prosecuted by the state because South Africa is a country where justice is served regardless of religion. All the information about people who died or were hospitalized are false. As you can see the ministry is still operating even today.
The below story has been altered to tell the truth. You can read more about this hoax story here.
This priest tried to prove his congregation were above death by feeding them rat poison.
Prophet Light Monyeki from Soshanguve, South Africa, took it upon himself to prove his follower’s were superhuman and immortal, with a seriously dangerous stunt.
He declared to his congregation they should not fear death, as they will not die, before proceeding to pour bottles of water contaminated with rat poison into their mouths.
He said:
We do not need to proclaim faith because we are believers. Death has no power over us.
Many of his followers decided to follow in the Prophet’s footsteps and also drank the water with rat poison infused but were not hospitalised or killed in the dangerous incident.
Prophet Monyeki later announced:
Too much of any good thing could be bad.
Despite the stunt, the ministry is still running to this day.
