The attacks came just hours after Russian president Vladimir Putin met with Donald Trump to discuss ‘international terrorism and extremism’.

The Russian defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, said that Russia had launched a new missile strike against IS in Syria with its aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.

The Russian bombing of Aleppo has been particularly contested because the presence of IS, in what was Syria’s largest city, is low and so the high level of bombings and strikes are being used on trapped civilians.

One woman, who regularly tweets daily updates of life under occupation, said she has heard of 20 bombs fall since the new airstrike started.
