The Queen apparently never leaves home without a nice helping of her favourite tasty snack and it’s something you might not expect…

Her Majesty is rarely seen without a colourful twinset on and a handbag to match, but she isn’t ready to leave the palace until her favourite munch is also packed.

Of all the food items the Queen has access to in the whole world, she has chosen to give her royal seal of approval to –  drumroll please – chocolate biscuit cake. It is somewhat of an anticlimax, although a pleasant surprise simultaneously.

Darren McGrady, the former Royal Chef told Harpers Bazaar, the Queen has a sweet tooth and always likes to travel in close reach of her favourite snack.

He told the magazine:

Now the chocolate biscuit cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it’s all gone.

She’ll take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake.

The sweet treat is baked at Buckingham Palace and the head of the royal family can’t get enough of it – apparently enjoying a hearty slab of it everyday.

She obviously has so much love for the decadent dessert, she can’t bear to leave it behind to get snapped up by another member of the royal household.

Especially as it seems the rest of the royal family are also big fans. Another former chef, Carolyn Robb, said she too used to indulge Prince William and Harry with the sugary delight.

She told You magazine:

It was a firm favourite in the royal nursery; so much so that, many years later, Prince William chose to have chocolate biscuit cake at his wedding for the groom’s cake.

I would’ve expected Her Royal Highness to have gone for something more exotic like caviar or lobster perhaps, but it seems her love of sweet things gets the golden stamp.

Can’t argue with that, if it’s good enough for the Queen then it’s definitely good enough for the rest of us.

Bring on the treats.
