‘Rollin’ down the street, smokin’ indo/Sippin’ on gin and juice, laid back
with my mind on my money/And my money on my mind/Rollin’ down the street, smokin’ indo/Sippin’ on gin and juice/Laid back with my mind on my money and my money on my mind…’
Not my words, of course, but those of Snoop Dogg from his second single Gin and Juice way back in 1994.
The veteran rapper, alongside chefs Hubert Keller and Michael Voltaggio, concocted the world’s largest gin and juice cocktail over the weekend, taking to Instagram to show the result off.
It’s pretty remarkable:
The Guinness World Records certificate reads:
The largest paradise cocktail was created by Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Michael Voltaggio, Kim Kaechele and Kendall Coleman (All USA) in Napa, California, USA on 26 May 2018.
In case you want to try and beat the record at home, Snoop got his world record with 550 litres of gin and juice in a 5ft x 3ft glass made with 180 bottles of Hendrick’s Gin.
Towards the end of 2016, Snoop and Martha Stewart featured on the Ellen Show, showing viewers how to make the perfect ‘Laid Back’ – which consists of one part Tanqueray Ten, one part P Diddy’s Ciroc Apple Vodka, two parts pineapple juice, topped with club soda.
Snoop explaining why he decided to set up shop with Tanqueray and his reason is quite brilliant.
He told LA Weekly:
I didn’t do the brown, man, ’cause I’m brown enough. Too much brown [alcohol] ain’t good enough for you. The worst hangovers are with the brown. The ones that you be like, ‘Oh my God, I’m never gonna drink again!’ You never got those with [clear spirits].
Tanqueray has always been good to me and we never really had a working relationship. I would order bottles and they would look out for me because of what I’d said on my song and whatnot. So I never had a relationship with them, and once their people got at my peoples, we forged a relationship and there were things we wanted to do to enhance it.
As for his general appreciation of gin, he added:
Gin is upper echelon. It’s a step up. Because you just don’t find — and no disrespect — regular winos just drinking Tanqueray. You understand me? That go back to the days when I used to go the liquor store, they’d be standing out there … they’d be like “gimme a few dollars, li’l man … gimme something to get me something to drink.” And I’d give them something to drink and they wouldn’t get this [pointing to his gin bottle]! They would get that Mad Dog dub dub, or that Night Train … you understand me? Thunderbird.
Tanqueray aside, Snoop also reflected on his second-favourite party ingredient ‘Pink Panties’, a blended mixture of pink lemonade, gin, ice cream, strawberries and ice.
He said:
I don’t think they make those no more. When I was in junior high school, going into high school, that was the drink that the little hot girls used to make when they wanted to act like they wanted to give you a shot at the title, but they never gave you — they’d make that drink and get you all revved up, and then you wouldn’t even get a shot at the title!
You can’t have everything Snoop, but I feel like a Guinness World Record will suffice for now.
