A Texas teacher has been arrested after a video of her repeatedly hitting a student over the head went viral.
In the nine-second video, the teacher, identified as Mary Hastings from Ozen High School in Beaumont, U.S., slaps a student five times after what looks like an apparent disruption in the classroom. And it’s not a light slap, either – it looks like she full on beats him.
To make matters worse, you can hear Hastings call the student an ‘idiot ass’ before mocking him in front of other students.
What happened before and after the video remains unclear, but the teacher has been arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanour assault, Fox 4 Beaumont reports. She was taken to Jefferson County Jail and released after posting a $2,500 (£1,762) bond.
The Beaumont Independent School District released a statement saying that Hastings was immediately removed from the classroom and placed on administrative leave pending an ongoing investigation. It’s pretty clear though that the investigation will probably be short… the video says it all.
