The egg that became Insta-famous has cracked and leaked the secrets of what it’s all really been about.

We were only a couple of weeks in to 2019 when a new Instagram post broke Kylie Jenner’s record and became the most-liked picture of all time.

Rather than any of the usual suspects, like a new celebrity baby, royal wedding or hilarious new meme, the photo which made history was one of your average egg.

While at first it seemed to be simply a funny stunt to knock Jenner off the top-spot, the real meaning behind World Record Egg has now been revealed.

Check it out below:

The video was shared after last night’s Super Bowl, where it was revealed that the sensation was actually the subject of a mental health advert warning about the pressures of social media, shared by Mental Health America.

The campaign was very cleverly done, and makes a lot of sense now we know the reasoning behind it. Just a few days after it became the most-liked picture on Instagram, the account for World Record Egg shared another picture in which the egg started to show signs of cracking.

A series of pictures followed over the next few weeks, showing the egg becoming ever-more fractured until two days ago, when the egg was given the look of an American football.

The caption read:

The wait is over. All will be revealed this Sunday following the Super Bowl.

In encouraging Instagram users to help the picture break a world record, those behind the campaign simultaneously caught the attention of millions of people while also proving their own points about the pressures of social media.

In the video, the egg explains:

Hi, I’m the world_record_egg. (You may have heard of me.)

Recently I’ve started to crack. The pressure of social media is getting to me.

If you’re struggling too, talk to someone.

Mental Health America tweeted about the campaign after the deeper meaning of the egg was revealed, writing:

We’d like to thank #TalkingEgg for shining a limelight on #mentalhealth tonight with an important message.

Not everyone chooses to #fightintheopen for mental health, but you did for the one in five Americans living with a mental health condition.

The revelation was certainly worth the wait; Mental Health America did a great job in raising awareness of the pressures of social media and the affect it can have on mental health.

Good job, Talking Egg!
