2015 certainly threw up some interesting viral sensations.

From phrases, to dances, and back again, there was no shortage of trends on Twitter, memes, and gifs doing the rounds.

With that in mind, here are the biggest trends of 2015, courtesy of Konbini

Dance moves

Twerking, trying to whip and doing the Nae Nae were all prominent for those of us who had too much to drink and took to the dance floor in 2015.

From Miley Cyrus to Tracey down the pub, twerking was all the range, and pretty much everyone tried their hands at the whip and the Nae Nae – with varying degrees of success.

Slang

God knows what 2016 will bring, given 2015 was the year that brought us ‘basic’, ‘on fleek’ ‘squad’ and ‘giving me life’.

Kids these days seem to speak a different language to most of us, and the urban dictionary will probably continue to be your new best friend.

The dress

The chicken or the egg had nothing on the dress that divided the world.

Was it blue and black or white and gold? It was the former, but it took social media by storm and had ten million tweets mentioning it in the first week of it going viral alone.

Many optical illusions tried and failed to match up to the dress, and even now, people are baffled by the illusion – despite the scientific explanation behind it.

Netflix and Chill

The phrase – or euphemism depending on how you want to look at it – that everyone picked up on and one that spawned memes all over the world.

From Lewandowski and Chill in sport to ’20 minutes into Netflix and Chill and he gives you this look’, we’ve all seen them.

One that defined social media in 2015, and it doesn’t look like going away as we head into the New Year.
