Whether you are pro or anti-Trump there are plenty of objective reasons to be concerned about his presidency.
The man made promises to ban an entire religion from being able to enter America – a pledge that, although downgraded to ‘Muslims will be thoroughly screened’, will have resonated with closet racists in every corner of the nation, and that only serves to breed fear for minority groups.
And this tweet perfectly demonstrates the sense of fear Muslim-Americans will be feeling at present…
As reported by Mic, the tweet read:
My mom literally just texted me “don’t wear the Hijab please” and she’s the most religious person in our family….
A devastating insight…
The effect of Trump’s rhetoric is plain to see.
‘The Donald’ may have spoken about unity in his post-result speech, but the damage has already been done.
America is a multi-cultural nation left fiercely divided by this campaign, and the wounds will not heal should Islamaphobia and proposals of institutional racism go unchecked following the result.
For the sake of the futures of millions of Americans hopefully Trump was full of cheap talk to buy votes, and not genuine hate.
