There is a hilarious Twitter feud going on, and for once it has nothing to do with Kanye West.
The parties involved are actually two libraries from the rival Scottish islands of Shetland and Orkney.
It all kicked off when Orkney Library received the holy grail of Twitter use – the verified blue tick.
Oooooh hello blue tick!
Is this like a Blue Peter badge? Does it get us into exhibitions and that for free? pic.twitter.com/SIbV8yACrY

As reported by the i100, it was a pretty big deal for the account with 26,000 followers, considering the isles only have a population of around 20,000.
And what better way is there to celebrate than sticking two fingers up at your closest rival…
Do you like our blue tick @ShetlandLibrary? We know you already have blue ticks but ours isn't caught off sheep pic.twitter.com/QIt6WWzd0a

Not one to suffer in silence, the Shetland library account fired some shots straight back.
Aah @OrkneyLibrary. So you've been ticked off? No need to tick us off too with your rudeness! #sheepreference ? https://t.co/5we1ZacCaZ

@OrkneyLibrary Assume this "blue tick" business is a bit like when @Debenhams have a sale, identifying what's knocked down & 'had its day'?
— Shetland Library (@ShetlandLibrary) April 5, 2016
Then other social media users started calling out Orkney too, much to the delight of Shetland.
@OrkneyLibrary @ShetlandLibrary I don't like to be pedantic (I do really, and relish every opportunity) but isn't the tick white?

Excellent point, well made! https://t.co/HucbwyHcAL

@Stuartyellow @OrkneyLibrary @ShetlandLibrary and isn't it 'caught from' or are they trying to be hip?

Recognising that social media is a fickle beast Orkney then backed off and appealed to Shetland’s ego…
@ShetlandLibrary You''ll be able to get your own back when you snatch our Library of the Year crown soon.

But it turns out the two accounts have a history of one-upmanship, with Orkney bragging previously about their celebrity x-factor.
We had a very special guest at Saturday Slaughters today. Thanks so much @jk_rowling Come back soon x pic.twitter.com/GVaXSVX88O

Someone needs to put a lid on this before it spirals out of control into a tribal war.
