A 96-year-old war veteran has become a viral sensation after the bar manager at his local posted a picture of him to Facebook.

Second World War RAF Vet, Ted Fullerton, caught the eye of Benjamin Lopez at The Duke of Cumberland after wearing his war medals to the pub, reports the Daily Mail.

Benjamin – bar manager at the pub in Cottingham, Yorkshire – decided he had to go over to pay his respects, and find out Ted’s story.

Benjamin said:

I just had to go and ask him about his life and say thank you for his service to our country.

He became really overwhelmed and cried. He said: “Thank you young man, no one cares about what I have to say anymore.”

Convinced this wasn’t true, Benjamin decided to prove to Ted that people cared far more than he thought.

He took a photo and posted it to Facebook, asking people to like and share to show Ted that, in fact, people valued his services more than ever.

320,000 likes and 137,000 shares later, it’s fair to say that Ted has got his proof.

Tens of thousands of people have commented on the photo, thanking Ted for what he did during the war to protect the freedoms we now take for granted.

Thank you for all you have done for this country. Don’t ever feel like no one wants to hear what you have to say as many do. My 7 year old son would be absolutely fascinated to hear your life stories.

Ted – who served as RAF ground crew in India during the war – told the Hull Daily Mail he was overwhelmed by the response.

You’re not dreaming Ted, you deserve every ounce of that praise and a whole lot more.
