Brazilian 33 year old Anthony Kulkamp started stuttering and couldn’t remember the brand of his car, he realised something was up, so went to get checked out at the hospital.
It turned out that he had a brain tumour, which needed to be removed.
During the operation, Anthony was kept awake. This isn’t uncommon.
Kulkamp’s surgeon, Dr. Jean Abreu Machado said
By keeping the patient awake during surgery, these areas can be monitored in real time. A kind of mapping of important areas can be done. It really is a great challenge for the whole surgery team, including the anaesthetist.
At this point, the anaesthetist’s challenge begins: to keep the patient awake and pain-free.
What ISN’T common, is what Anthony did while the doctors were poking around his brain.
He rested his guitar on his belly, and played and sang songs. Obviously.
My right hand was a bit weaker because that was the side that they were operating on. So I stopped and rested.
I was interspersing songs and talking with them.
Fair play. I would be too busy shitting myself to think about anything other than the fact that my brain was exposed, let alone remember a song on the guitar, as well as the lyrics.
