A few weeks ago, Jason Momoa shaved off his beard.

You’ll remember the day, I’m sure, as the news of the shave shook the world – an international crisis was declared and an emergency hotline was set up for distraught Momoa fans who didn’t know what to do with themselves now their idol had rid himself of one of his defining features. A day of mourning was announced and those affected by the news were sent home early from work. I think.

Thankfully, Jason Khal Aquaman Drogo Momoa knows all too well how modern audiences love a petition to change things they have no control over, so before anyone could start one, the actor confirmed he’ll be doing his best to regrow the beloved facial hair in time for Aquaman 2.

In the meantime, J-Mo is making up for the distress his shorn facial hair caused by selling the very thing which inflicted the damage on eBay.

Of course, Momoa didn’t just wake up one day and decide to shave off his seven-year-old beard on a whim. He did it in an effort to raise awareness for the environment, recycling, and the dangers of single-use plastics – because if the man’s threatening to shave his beard off, you know people will listen.

You can watch the moment Momoa took the trim here:

However, his fight for the environment didn’t end there.

The 39-year-old is now auctioning off his Braun beard trimmer (signed, of course) on eBay to raise funds for The Nature Conservancy, a global environmental non-profit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive.

Not only will 100 per cent of the proceeds go to The Nature Conservancy, but Momoa will match the sale price himself, up to $10,000, in order to make a significant contribution to the fight against pollution.

As he explains in the video, the actor is doing this to highlight the possibilities of recycling, specifically aluminium.

He says:

I just want to do this to bring awareness that plastics are ruining our planet, and I think I have a solution.

I don’t want to bitch about it. There’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet as long as we recycle, and that’s aluminium.

It’s 100 per cent recyclable.

At the time of writing, the signed beard trimmer is up to $730 with four days left on the auction. Also, there are 79 people ‘watching’ the auction. If you want to get involved, check out the eBay listing here.

Hopefully, the sale and the proceeds will go someway to helping the fight against pollution.

Also, if he doesn’t have a beard trimmer, Jason will have to grow back his beard, so it’s win-win!
