Warning: Contains Spoilers
The last ever episode of Game of Thrones has aired. Eight years since the show started, it could be argued it was one of the most highly anticipated TV finales of all time.
I’d actually go as far to say it was the most highly anticipated TV finale ever, but that might just be because I’m fed up of hearing about it because it’s been all everyone has been talking about for the past year.
Regardless of how hyped up people were for it though, this didn’t stop pretty much everyone being disappointed with the ending. So disappointed, in fact, that the finale, The Iron Throne, is officially the lowest ranked episode in the show’s history.
The episode has so far received a measly 4.5 stars out of 10 from more than 137,100 reviews on IMDb. To give you an idea of just how bad that is, the lowest ranked episode before this season was Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken in season 5 – an episode that still ranked a generous 8.1 stars.
In fairness, it wasn’t just the finale which rated poorly – although it’s definitely the worst. The entire eighth season clearly wasn’t a fan favourite, with its best episode A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (episode 2) scoring 8.1.
Yep, you heard that right. The best episode in this season ranked the same as the worst episode for all the previous seasons. Yikes.
I mean, it’s not really surprising when you think about it. Bran became king, Daenerys died, and Jon Snow got banished to the Wall forever.
Either one of those on their own would be bad enough, but I think Bran becoming king was the one which really caught everyone off guard. Like seriously, Bran?! Come on.
Some viewers are so outraged by the ending that one million people have signed a petition to remake the entire eighth season – that’s how disappointed they were. I’m sorry to break it to you though guys, that’s not how the telly business works.
If you’re still feeling let down by the ending and need someone to chat to about it though, a counselling service has been set up just for that purpose.
So whether you need to talk about the remaking of season eight, Dany’s death, or that plastic bottle that somehow appeared on set, the service has your back.
Now if you’ll just excuse me while I go rewatch the episode in the hope that I’ll actually like it this time…
