The universe has been saved, and now it’s time for our heroes to kick off their capes and have some fun.

Sadly Tony Stark/Iron Man is no more, after a self-sacrificing death which made us love the billionaire playboy turned true superhero all the more.

However, fans will no doubt be cheered to see photos of Tony Stark IRL – Robert Downey Jr. – enjoying a well earned lunch with the super-strong women of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Downey hosted the lunch in an on-set catering tent while still filming Avengers: Endgame, with many of the actors still in full costume.

Present at the ‘girl power’ lunch were Brie Larson, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Gwyneth Paltrow, Evangeline Lily, Danai Gurira, Elizabeth Olsen, Karen Gillan and Letitia Wright.

The table was decked out with sunflowers, with each actor appearing completely happy and relaxed with each other. A far cry from the tense action of Avengers: Endgame.

Downey shared two pics of the ladies’ lunch on Instagram, with the following caption:

#tbt #throwback #flashback to the #Women of @marvelstudios #mcu lunch I had the pleasure of hosting… #girlpower #epic #bts (@jimmy_rich ) #TeamStark #thankyou good-times getting the ladies together…

Downey’s Instagram followers loved this insight into life on set, with the post being liked nearly ten million times at the time of writing.

And those in attendance at the lunch also commented on the post. Gillan wrote ‘Yes!!!!!! PS thanks for lunch’ while Paltrow asked ‘Why is my face so red?’ (to which one fan replied, ‘red as… a pepper?’)

Avengers: Endgame concludes the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and has proved a monster success with critics and audiences alike.

UNILAD’s very own film buff Tom Percival wrote:

Endgame was so good in fact that despite it clocking in at three hours long, all I want to do right now is go back and watch it all again.

Endgame is the perfect ending to what’s been recently titled the Infinity Saga, balancing humour and drama while also delivering on the promise of Infinity War’s bleak closing minutes.

In fact I loved this film so much there were several times when I broke my own strict code of silence in the cinema, cheering and clapping like a trained seal.

The first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced some very strong and memorable female characters, no doubt inspiring a new generation of comic book loving little girls.

It’s good to see these actors enjoying their time on set together, after sharing such a unique and special adventure together.

You can now watch Avengers: Endgame in cinemas nationwide.
