PA/GettyThe man at the centre of the Marvel Universe, Stan Lee, is to have a documentary made about his life, directed by the men behind the latest Avengers films, the Russo brothers.
You may know the Russo brothers from such films as Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, as well as the hugely popular TV series Community and Arrested Development.
You may also know Stan Lee from the Marvel Universe and the legion of comicbook stories and films made over his decades-long career which have touched the hearts of millions.
According to Comicbook, Anthony Russo said:
We love Stan Lee and I think it’s incredibly special that Endgame will be his final cameo. We are fascinated by the life of Stan Lee and we are actually developing a little something that has to do with his work in the history of Marvel.
But we are not ready to present it or talk about it yet. It’s more of a documentary.
Russo was speaking to the Indo-Asian News Service in the build-up to the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame.
It is not yet clear what format the Stan Lee biopic will take given the early stages of the project and Anthony Russo’s ambiguity in commenting.
GettyHowever, for such a seasoned pro to make a comment is enough to get our interests piqued.
Lee was responsible for the creation of many Marvel characters we know and love today, including Iron Man, Thor, Spider-Man and the X-Men.
He, along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, was essentially responsible for the superhero genre of comics and films as we know it.
The release of Avengers: Endgame next week (April 25 in the UK and April 26) will see Lee make his final cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
First appearing as a juror in the 1989 made for TV movie The Trial of The Incredible Hulk, Lee continued to make cameos in the Marvel universe, popping up in all of the live-action films, in video games and even in animated form.
Marvel’s last release, Captain Marvel, contained a tribute to Stan in the Marvel Studios graphic in the film’s opening credits and his cameo appearance saw him sat on a subway train reading the script to Kevin Smith’s Mallrats while Captain Marvel kicked some Skrull ass.
Stan Lee died in November 2018 at the age of 95.
