Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2V2 Multiplayer Gameplay Mode Revealed

When Activision and Infinity Ward revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare back in May, the main focus was on the game’s intense-sounding campaign and back-to-basics approach for the iconic shooter.

While a renewed commitment to a campaign mode was obviously welcome news for fans who found it to be a sorely missed feature in Black Ops 4, multiplayer is still a meaty chunk of the Call of Duty experience, and folk were keen to see just what multiplayer would look like in the new, grittier Modern Warfare.

Thankfully, Activision has now obliged, sharing an extended look at Modern Warfare’s new 2v2 multiplayer mode, fittingly called Gunfight. It was revealed during a livestream last night featuring a number of well-know Call of Duty players, and you can take a look at it in action below (via BigfryTV).

The rules of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Gunfight are simple enough: two teams of two jump into (incredibly small) custom maps with the same loadouts and are tasked with taking each other out. To keep things fresh, the loadout changes every two rounds, with the first team to win six rounds claiming the overall victory.

The small maps, inability to heal, and 40 second rounds mean that Gunfight is a rapid-fire mode by its very nature. In the event of some kind of tie, you get ten seconds of overtime in which you can either capture the flag that will appear, or  (very) quickly take out the opposing team. If overtime expires, the win goes to the team with the higher health.

Activision has described Gunfight as a “fast-paced, pick-up-and-play experience that’s easy to learn”, but notes that it still boasts tactically expansive gameplay for those looking for a deeper experience. We’re also told that a typical loadout consists of a Primary weapon, a Secondary weapon, a Tactical Grenade (such as a Flashbang), and a piece of Lethal Equipment (like a frag grenade).

Gunfight is of course just one of the multiplayer modes that we’ll be seeing in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but Activision’s willingness to host a livestream just to show this one new mode off suggests it has a lot of confidence in it.

By all accounts, Modern Warfare is shaping up to be a pretty exciting experience for Call of Duty fans. New modes like Gunfight will be joined by “several” more traditional modes, meaning that there’ll be something for everyone when the game hits PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25.
