Ever since the massive success of the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake, speculation around the possibility of remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis has reached ridiculous levels.
Resident Evil 2 director Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said a few months back that the game was a possibility if fans wanted it enough, but prior to that there were some pretty solid sounding reports that a remake of Resi 3 was already in development at Capcom.
The plot has now frustratingly thickened even further, as a new rumour suggests that Resident Evil 3 is currently in development – it just isn’t being worked on by the Capcom team that put together Resident Evil 2.
According to a previously reliable Resident Evil leaker who goes by AestheticGamer (AKA Dusk Golem on Resetera), the remake “isn’t even being internally developed by Capcom Division 1 at all.” They go on to tease that who is developing it is “very interesting.”
AestheticGamer goes on to suggest that the game won’t be what people are expecting (which presumably means it won’t be much like the Resi 2 remake at all) and that it’ll be out by 2020 at the latest.
They also said that we can expect Resident Evil to “unofficially” be an annual franchise for the next couple of years, though notes that Resident Evil 8 has been delayed as it waits for the impending next-generation of consoles.

As with any rumours, I’d suggest you take these with a pinch of salt. It is worth pointing out that AestheticGamer previously managed to accurately leak a few details on Resident Evil 7 DLC before it was officially announced, so he might just know what he’s talking about.
