Of all the talking points to come out of the current season of Game of Thrones, none have sparked as much debate, or inspired as many memes, as the coffee cup.
The infamous takeaway cup quickly gained notoriety last week when, shortly after episode four aired, a few eagle-eyed viewers spotted it perched on a table in front of Emilia Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen.
The cup was soon the only thing any Game of Thrones fan was talking about. HBO responded, Emilia Clarke responded, Starbucks had something to say about the matter despite it not actually being their cup, and the vessel even got its own Twitter account.
And while some behind-the-scenes pictures show who may have been responsible for the on-screen blunder, it came down to two culprits – Sophie Turner and Emilia Clarke.
The two actresses have both shared photos of themselves with some pretty incriminating evidence.
And while Emilia Clarke half admitted it may have been her, saying: ‘Did I just stumble upon the truth here?!’ others seemed to think it was Sophie Turner’s plan to sabotage Khaleesi all along.
HBO have since decided to edit out the cup for future airings of the episode, but fans are still hungry to get to the bottom of who was responsible.
When Sophie Turner appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host decided he’d try and get to the bottom of it too.
Not surprisingly, Turner wasn’t having any of it, and was happy to point fingers elsewhere.
